Friendship prayer

I couldn’t help posting this.  I originally saw this on Facebook and just fell in love with it.

Snow Day!

Usually I don’t pay attention to school closings since my classes are mostly online, but for once I finally had a legitimate reason to check school cancellations.  This week I began volunteering at an elementary school library in Rochester and today was supposed to be one of my volunteer days.  Obviously that didn’t happen due to the school being closed.  Monday was my first day at the school and I really enjoyed it.  I was very nervous at first because of my  lack of experience with small children.  Fortunately I started on a day when the librarian had a kindergarten class come in.  Such a cute age.   All of them kept coming up to me and asking me to read to them. I’m looking forward to going back on Friday.

Today was spent almost entirely doing school stuff.  Good thing my classes are kind of interesting this semester.

I did have one huge distraction while trying to get some work done.  I’ve come to the conclusion that my upstairs neighbors’ recently acquired adult cat is not spayed.  Over the last week there have been an unusually large number of male cats (who still have their special male parts) hanging out around the house, including two who like to sit on the doorstep as if expecting me to let them in.  And then there are the ones that are very vocal in letting us all know of their presence.  One in particular spent most the day howling underneath my window    I hope by now my upstairs neighbors have realized there is a very good chance their cat is fertile.

Due to classes starting up again I haven’t been able to knit as much.   Have some socks going but that’s about it for now.

Toe-ups!

Success!  My first ever toe-up magic loop socks are done.  I am so happy I pic032decided to switch to this sock knitting method, especially since I was able to do two socks at once.  And they took less than two weeks!  But that may be because I worked on them during school break.  I have already started another pair of toe-up magic loop socks.  My sock addiction has gone to a whole new level.

Still job hunting.  I signed up with a temp agency last week so I’m hoping that will bring in something.  Fortunately I am almost done with school, so now I can start preparing for finding a  permanent library job.   It feels like I just started grad school.  It’s hard to believe that I’m getting down to the last few months.

Monday I will begin volunteering at an elementary school library in Rochester.  I’m looking forward to this but am also a little bit (ok, more than a little bit) nervous.     I have very limited experience working with children.  Besides my niece and nephew, the only children I have spent time with were the ones that would come in with their parents for appointments at the vet clinic, and my experiences with them were not always the best ones!  However, I am very excited about this new opportunity and the school librarian I will be working with seems very happy to be having my help. I went to meet with her and the prinicipal last week.   When I left the meeting it was the end of the school day and the kids were all heading out.  The single woman in me couldn’t help but notice a few really hot men standing outside the school.  Then I remembered where I was and realized that all those hot men were probably the married fathers of the kids.

Just an idea

I am not a winter person.    More specifically, I hate the freezing cold weather we’ve been having recently!    The snow itself doesn’t bother me too much.  I have to admit that I was admiring how pretty the snow in the trees looked when I took Ollie for a walk through the woods in Madbury a few days ago.   Too bad the pretty snow typically requires cold weather.

As much as this snow frustrates me, it is even more annoying for the active, 4yr old Golden Retriever who apparently doesn’t care how cold it is outside.  He’s perfectly happy to roll around in the cold snow while I’m huddled in the doorway trying to get him inside.    He doesn’t understand that his mom doesn’t have the benefit of all that warm fur.

I can’t be the only cold-weather hating person with an active large dog.  So why aren’t there any indoor walking facilities that allow dogs?  That would be the coolest thing.    A nice big indoor place  that I could walk my dog in during the winter.   Someplace we could both get the exercise we need. Maybe even a little pool for the dogs to swim in.   If I had any money, that would be something I would do.

As for my knitting, the toe-up magic loop socks are going well.   I got the cast-on right on my first try and am now getting closer to the heel.  And I love knowing that I’ll finally have a pair of socks where both socks are the same size!

I was going to take a picture of the progress I’ve made on the socks but the batteries in my camera are dead and I’m too cheap to buy new batteries.

Job hunting……..

I know I shouldn’t be in panic mode just yet but since I’m a naturally stressful person I can’t help but start to worry.   Part of me is kicking myself for giving up the job I had even though I know that it was for the best.  On the bright side, I’ve inquired at a few libraries about volunteering and have gotten a couple promising leads.   Even though they won’t be paying positions they will at least give me the library experience I need, which will be great when I go to apply for library  jobs this summer.

Bowls….

I accidentally purchased the wrong color of Lamb’s Pride last month at Spinning Yarns.  I had previously bought a nice dark blue for my nephew’s hat and wanted to get more to make a matching scarf.   I don’t know if it was the lighting or what, but I ended up buying this purply-blue color instead and didn’t realize my mistake until later.  Fortunately, I had enough of the original dark blue to make a striped scarf to match the hat, but it left me with this other blue yarn.   So I decided to make this felted bowl with it, I think the blue will add some nice color to my apartment.  Very easy project.  I started the bowl at knit night on Wednesday, finished it Thursday night, and febowllted it Friday morning.   It was so easy I may do another one.

Socks…….

Even though I still have two socks desperately in need of their partners, I’m going to let those wait for a bit and embark on my newest project – toe up magic loop socks.  I’m excited because I’ve been wanting to do two socks at once (particularly after my first pair ended up being very different sizes).  This will be my first toe up pair too.  If all goes well, my fellow knit girls may witness me working on them next week at knit night.   If I’m not working on them, it may be best not to ask me about them!

With that being said, time to go cast on those  socks!!!

Saw this on Heather’s blog and thought it was too cute, so I had to do my own family portrait!!!  Of course Ollie is much larger than Oscar in real life.  But now I really want a shirt just like the one in the picture………
